School Supplies for Teens 2017
Many kids return to school without the supplies they need. As a church, we want to help meet the needs of those students who don’t have the supplies they need to get a good start for the academic year.
Many people focus on the supplies needed for younger kids while middle school kids don’t get enough supplies donated. This year, we’re gathering supplies to send to Central Middle School (where our volunteers painted classrooms).
Needed Supplies:
- Pencils
- Eraser Caps and/or Erasers
- Pens (Blue or Black Ink)
- Loose Leaf Notebook Paper (Preferably college ruled – but wide ruled is just as awesome! ☺)
- Composition Books
- 3 ring binders
- Dividers
- Folders
- Markers
If you want to contribute, simply drop supplies off in the foyer at our worship gathering on Sunday, or contact us to let us know when you want to drop off supplies during the week. (You can also pick up a copy of the above list there.)
For more information contact us or see Justin Puchalsky on Sunday!
Build On – Check in or Tag Our Location and Do Good!
As we get ready for back to school this August, every 6 check-ins at Deep Water Church will provide a brick to build a school in Nicaragua. We’re working with BuildOn to make it happen.
BuildOn’s mission is to build schools in villages that historically have had no adequate school structure. They have built more than 1000 schools in seven countries around the world. Every day, over 1000,000kids attend schools they have built in Burkina Faso, Haiti, Mali, Malawi, Nepal, Nicaragua and Senegal.
The hashtag this month is #bricks4schools. Thanks for checking in to help build a school in Nicaragua and thanks for helping Deep Water engage the world!
Why build a school?
Education is a basic human right. Yet those who need education the most – children living in poverty – are the least likely to attend school. BuildOn builds schools with villages that have historically had no adequate school structure – where students are squeezed into dark and crumbling mud huts, or are taught under trees when the weather permits, or have to walk multiple miles to a neighboring village, or can’t attend school at all
Code Purple Storage Move
Code Purple is moving their storage location for the items we collected at Firefly and for the other donated items. We’re meeting Monday, July 31 at 9:00 am.
Contact Jeff or see John Rundle on Sunday for the exact location.
Database Change
Jeff always jokes that “If you don’t like organized religion, try us–we’re not that organized.” But truthfully, we do a lot behind the scenes to organize, to be effective in the community and to facilitate smooth administration. While many of you may never see the database, some of you do log in to give electronically, to view giving statements or to do other tasks. We are currently in a transition phase between two different databases.
If you normally access the database from our “login” link on our website, that page has been replaced – along with your password; so, you will have to request a new one. If you are on the worship team and access Planning Center regularly, it will be the same password.
Remember: If you normally access your giving statement thru the database, some of your giving history may be missing when you first check. We are in the process of converting everything over to the new system.
Note: this will NOT affect gifts made thru PayPal.
Also. of you normally use the nursery check-in on Sundays, you will notice some changes this week.
Sorry for any frustrations that may arise. You can be confident that we are working hard to switch things over and hoping that the new database will help us be more efficient at serving you and the community!
