Balloons and Comic Con in Dover 2017

For the opening of Comic Con, we’ve been asked to do balloons and run some kids games in the green spot near our meeting place. So if you can help, I need a few balloon blowers and people who can help run a few games. And if you’re feeling nostalgic, the Ghostbusters car will be parked tight there too!

While not a Deep Water event, we love to support things in downtown Dover and encourage people to get involved. So if you haven’t heard, make sure you let your Inner Geek out and check out Comic Con in Dover. To keep up to date, here are the Facebook events for the Friday Kick-Off and Comic Con on Saturday.

FREE ADMISSION

What is Comic Con? Beginning at the Dover Public Library in 2013 as a teen program meant to help promote our graphic novel collection, Dover Comic Con has grown from just 120 teens gathering together in the library to over 10,000 attendees of all ages attending a variety of events citywide. Dover Comic Con is a unique festival event with artists, vendors, authors, cars, panels, crafts, gaming, fan groups and more!

School Supplies for Wilmington

Pastor Derrick came and shared with us a few times this summer. (Check out most recent message here.) Wilmington has become one of the most violent small cities in the US; and we want to support what Pastor Derrick and Epiphany Church are doing in Wilmington as they share Jesus and change lives.

They are planning an outreach event with school supplies. If you’re interested in contributing, as we mentioned on Sunday, this week is the only week we can collect in order to meet his deadline. Here’s what they need:

  • 16-count Crayola Crayons
  • 12-count Colored Pencils
  • 15 people signed up
  • #2 Writing Pencils 12-pack
  • Glue Sticks
  • Fiskars blunt tip scissors
  • Black & White Composition Books
  • 2-Pocket Folders
  • Black or Blue Ball Point Pens
  • Single-Subject Spiral-Bound Notebooks
  • 3×5-inch memo-style notebooks
  • Highlighters
  • 2-inch 3-Ring Binder
  • 100 Sheet Pack 3-Hole Lined Notebook Filler
  • Pack of 5-tab subject dividers

All donations must be received by Sunday. Questions? Ask Rob on Sunday or message him.

When:  Monday, August 21 from 5-7pm

We’ve been asked to do balloon animals, so we’d love more help with making animals! (No experience necessary!) Why balloon animals? One of the things we value is serving our community at local events in Dover. It’s a great way to serve our community and meet some new people. There will be plenty of people; but it won’t be nearly as crazy busy as Dover Days!

If you’re interested in being involved, contact us!

Jeff will be holding Clown College–balloon twisting school–this Sunday after the worship gathering.

Deep Water Church Facebook Group

Reminder: While you may already “like” us on Facebook (and if not, please do here!), some things are better posted and responded to in a group rather than a fan page. For those things, we have a Facebook group meant to be a place for people connected to Deep Water Church to share prayer requests, swap baby/kids clothes, ask about good apartments, places to buy used cars, suggestions for contractors, recommendations for doctors, etc.–all those things people do when they are in community.

While we prefer to do everything openly and without secrets, we have chosen to make the Facebook Group private so people feel comfortable sharing prayer requests, etc. If you want to be a part of the community, please ask to join!

So, click here, connect and make new friends!

School Supplies for Teens 2017

We delivered the first wave of school supplies to Central Middle School this week; but if you still want to bring in school supplies, we’ll get them there! If you wanted to donate but didn’t get around to it, we’d like to make that process simpler! Make an online donation to school supplies through our regular online place of giving (click here) and designate it to school supplies. We’ll get the funds to the teachers to get what they need for the students.

Missed the announcements about school supplies? Here’s what we’re doing:

Many kids return to school without the supplies they need. As a church, we want to help meet the needs of those students who don’t have the supplies they need to get a good start for the academic year.

Many people focus on the supplies needed for younger kids while middle school kids don’t get enough supplies donated. This year, we’re gathering supplies to send to Central Middle School (where our volunteers painted classrooms).

Needed Supplies:

  1. Pencils
  2. Eraser Caps and/or Erasers
  3. Pens (Blue or Black Ink)
  4. Loose Leaf Notebook Paper (Preferably college ruled – but wide ruled is just as awesome! )
  5. Composition Books
  6. 3 ring binders
  7. Dividers
  8. Folders
  9. Markers

If you want to contribute, simply drop supplies off in the foyer at our worship gathering on Sunday, or contact us to let us know when you want to drop off supplies during the week. (You can also pick up a copy of the above list there.)

For more information contact us or see Justin Puchalsky on Sunday!
