Operation Christmas Child 2016

Don’t forget about our participation in Operation Christmas Child again this year. We only have a few boxes left!

What do I put in a box?
This video should answer some of your questions!

What is Operation Christmas Child?
People across the country will fill shoe boxes with small toys, school supplies, hygiene items and other gifts. With your $7 donation (placed inside the box or paid online) this Christmas season, a child overseas will receive your shoe box along with literature explaining the good news of Jesus in their language.

Where do they go?
They go all over the world. Check out this story/example:

Can I find out where my shoebox goes?
You can pay online and find out specifically out where your box goes. By making your donation online here using a credit or debit card you will receive a special shoe box label included in your e-mail receipt. Print or copy the label as many times as you need to attach to each of your boxes.

What if I want to contribute but not do a box?
You can make donations to Operation Christmas Child Project in the offering  if you want to help, but don’t want to make a basket. If you want to contribute toys, etc., but don’t want to do a whole box, you can can drop off items in the basket in the foyer.

Please return the shoe boxes to us; and we’ll get them to the collection place.

Questions? Comment below or contact us for more info–or see Cindi or Jeff on Sunday and/or pick up a brochure in the lobby. If you’re interested, pick up a shoe box too!

Where to Donate for Hurricane Relief

There are a lot of places willing to take you money; but not all charities are legit or run efficiently. If you’re interested in donating to an organization that will use your money to do great good, consider Convoy of Hope.

Convoy of Hope

convoy-of-hope-logoConvoy of Hope pre-positioned its team in Florida prior to Hurricane Matthew in order to work with local partners in the area immediately after the storm passed to distribute food, water and supplies to affected residents. They are also working with partners in South Carolina to distribute supplies to families in need. Additionally, they prepositioned resources in Haiti so they were prepared to begin with their compassion efforts there as soon as the storm passed.

Halloween Event

One of the things that make us who we are as a church is our desire to serve the City of Dover as they serve the people. We partner with the City of Dover and community organizations to do events for kids–especially downtown Dover events. In the past, we’ve helped with their annual Halloween event. This year, the event is scheduled for Friday, October 28.

The event will start with a costume parade from Loockerman Square (the green space on Loockerman near the church’s building) down to Legislative Mall. (Legislative Mall is the big green space where most people gather for the Fireworks.) There will be lots of activities for the kids on the Mall and then a movie back on Loockerman Square Plaza.

If we’re interested, we can make balloon animals, run games for kids, set up an information table, etc. Before we can commit to this, I (Jeff) need volunteers. I will be able to come; but I have a wedding rehearsal so I can’t make it on time. If you are interested, please contact me ASAP! Or join the discussion in the Facebook group here.
