Halloween Event

One of the things that make us who we are as a church is our desire to serve the City of Dover as they serve the people. We partner with the City of Dover and community organizations to do events for kids–especially downtown Dover events. In the past, we’ve helped with their annual Halloween event. This year, the event is scheduled for Friday, October 28.

The event will start with a costume parade from Loockerman Square (the green space on Loockerman near the church’s building) down to Legislative Mall. (Legislative Mall is the big green space where most people gather for the Fireworks.) There will be lots of activities for the kids on the Mall and then a movie back on Loockerman Square Plaza.

If we’re interested, we can make balloon animals, run games for kids, set up an information table, etc. Before we can commit to this, I (Jeff) need volunteers. I will be able to come; but I have a wedding rehearsal so I can’t make it on time. If you are interested, please contact me ASAP! Or join the discussion in the Facebook group here.

Women of Purpose Event

We don’t currently have many discipleship groups specifically targeted to women; but check out this event for ladies in November. Lauren Daigle is doing the worship and many of us love her music….to join the discussion about going, go here on Facebook.

Ancient Toilets Prove the Bible to be Accurate

One of the questions I (Jeff) often get is “How do I know the Bible is true?” While there is an element of faith in believing, there is also a lot of archeological evidence that shows the stories recorded in the Bible are true. Here’s one story from Relevant Magazine:

This is a crazy story. Archaeologists in Israel were recently digging at the site of the ancient city of Tel Lachish located in the Kingdom of Judah. There, they uncovered what is believed to be a 2,700-year-old toilet like one actually described in the Bible. Seriously.

The toilet was found in a room of a multi-chambered gate, that may have once been a shrine. Nearby, were small altars to cult figures which appeared to have been intentionally damaged: their “horned corners had been smashed.” According to The Times of Israel, it looks like ancient Israelite rulers installed a toilet in the alter room as a way of desecrating idols to false gods. As it turns out, this exact scenario is mentioned in the Old Testament. 2 Kings 10:27 says that Israelite forces had previously “demolished the sacred stone of Baal and tore down the temple of Baal, and people have used it for a latrine to this day.”

Check-in on Facebook to Make a Difference – October 2016 Cause

reach-10_oct-2016-socialmedia

For the month of October, we are partnering with Compassion International to provide loving care for children living in poverty.

Every 6 check-ins provides 1 day of care for a child in need.

Compassion International is a child-advocacy ministry that pairs compassionate people with those who are suffering from poverty. The ministry releases children from spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty. The goal is for each child to become a responsible and fulfilled adult.

When you check in on Facebook, feel free to add #compassion4kids to your posts. It’s a great way to remind your friends and family why you’re checking in!

P.S. If this is the first time you’ve heard of our Facebook check-in program, here’s how it works… we make a donation to a Kingdom-building cause every time someone checks in on Facebook. It’s a great way to tell your friends about Deep Water and do some good in the process. If you need some help checking in on Facebook, just ask!
