How Checking in on Facebook can Change the World
Our Community has done a lot of good through people’s dedication to supporting causes by checking in on Facebook as we partner with other churches doing the same thing. To celebrate the amazing work we’ve done in the world together, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on our non-profit partner, Save The Children.
This past August, we supported Save The Children by providing 51,395 days of early education for children in need. Every 2 check-ins provided 1 day at an early learning program. Here’s more about their mission and how their early learning program is changing the lives of hundreds of children.
The Need For Early Learning
Nearly 15 million children live in poverty in America and lack access to educational resources. This means that their chances of succeeding in kindergarten (and the rest of school) are shockingly low.
For children to succeed, it’s vital to begin education at an early age. Without a solid foundation, their futures are set up for failure. That’s where Save The Children comes in. Through our check-ins with Save The Children, we were able to provide the foundation children need to succeed in school and for the rest of their lives.
Save The Children’s Solution
Save the Children reaches the youngest U.S. children in need with early childhood development activities. Their services include a mix of high-quality classroom programs and home visiting for children from birth to age 5, as well as comprehensive family services.

They also provide parents with age-appropriate activities for their children, help monitor developmental progress, and coach parents on how to interact with children to promote early literacy.

Bill Corwin, Vice President for U.S. Programs with Save the Children shared this message:
Every day, vulnerable children miss out on the learning they need to succeed in school and in life. Here in America and around the world, our caring professionals are working hard to give girls and boys a healthy start, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. In the United States, too many children are living in poverty – they fall behind in school, and can never catch up.
Did you know 3-year-olds in low-income homes have heard 30 million fewer words than other kids their age? And by fourth grade, most of them can’t read at grade level. But just because a child is living in poverty doesn’t mean he or she doesn’t have potential, and because of support from people like you, we can help build a solid foundation for learning when children are young.
Thank You For Checking In
Thanks for always checking in and supporting great causes like Save The Children. We can’t wait to see what we will do together in the future!
Help Stop Human Trafficking in Delaware
Many of us at Deep Water care about the issue of human trafficking. There is an event this weekend (October 1) that some may be interested in attending.
From the event site:
Sex Trafficking occurs in every state of our nation and Delaware is no exception. Trafficking will be defined and identified through a compelling PowerPoint presentation so attendees may view what this crime “looks like” in the first state. Red flags and indicators will be reviewed. Actual cases in Delaware will be highlighted as well as how attendees can take steps toward prevention and reporting. Join us for this free event!
Checkin begins at 8:30 AM and the event will begin promptly at 9:00.

Songs We Sing – New Sermon Series
The songs we sing are our response to God and His love as revealed in the Bible. The words can powerfully move us when we understand His love for us; or the words can be empty when we don’t understand the words we sing. Join us as we explore the Songs We Sing and our reasons to worship.
For the last few weeks, we’ve been asking for feedback from our worship songs that we do and you love. Your input has helped develop our next sermon series. If you still want to contribute, answer this three question survey. Thanks!
Missions: the Marine Corps, 9-11 and Muslims

The Marine Corps, 9-11 and Muslims: I hope you guys enjoyed meeting the Missionaries last week and hearing their story. They have a really unique story and calling to proclaim Jesus around the world. Unfortunately, we are NOT able to record and podcast what they said because of where they are going; but I can share more if you missed it and want to know more. And if you’re interested in keeping up with them and forgot to get their contact info, message me and I’ll help you connect.
As a church, we will be supporting them (as we do others) as they go across the world to proclaim Jesus. So, thank you for your generous support of Deep Water which allows us to support them!
Some expressed interest in giving to them online. We will send any money marked missions that comes in during the next two weeks to them specifically. To give online, click here.
And if anyone wants to help with our missions display, talk to me!
