Community Outreach Spring Jam

In a continued effort to maintain and improve positive community relations, the Dover Police Department in collaboration with Communities In Schools of Delaware, is inviting the public to attend a Spring Jam event.

The event will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, April 1, at the Loockerman Way Plaza (that open green space near where we meet on Sundays). The department will have officers on hand to engage with the community in a fun-filled environment. Activities available include 3-on-3 basketball, music, bounce house, face painting, and a mobile gaming truck. In addition, the Simaron Pizza & Steak Shop will supply food for the event while supplies last. The event will also mark the launch of the Dover Police Department’s Police Athletic League. Officer Keith Hester will be on hand providing information and answering questions about the PAL program, set to launch later this spring.

To keep up with event details, check out the Facebook event.

Deep Water Church will be on hand to tie balloon animals. If you want to help, contact us ASAP. Jeff can teach you to tie a few quick animals before we begin!

Basic

“If I only had this as my guide … if all I had was the Bible …
and I was to read this book and then start a church,
what would it look like? Would it look like the thing that we’ve
built here and all refer to as church? Or would it look radically different?”
– FRANCIS CHAN

Join us for BASIC–a seven-part series of short films that challenges us to reclaim the church as Scripture describes it to be. This series speaks to those who have questions about the church and to those who may have lost interest in the church.

What is church?
You are church.
I am church.
We are church.

Beginning April 20, we’ll meet on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm at Deep Water’s gathering space. It’s a place where you can come to ask questions and share your thoughts as we explore what it means to be a disciple. This will be a good class for adults and/or older teens wanting to grow in their faith.

What will we actually do? Here’s the plan:

Schedule
7:00 Coffee & Catching up
7:15 Short Video & Discussion
8:30 End (or Follow Up Questions you were scared to ask!)

If possible, let Jeff know you’re coming so we can setup properly–and have enough snacks and coffee!

In it to End it – Get Involved

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

–Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20

Jesus commissioned his followers to go and make disciples around the world. We get to be part of what God is doing–around Dover and around the world!

Even if you missed our Night of Prayer (In it to End it), you can connect with us as we work with Sower of Seeds to impact the world for Jesus. Check out the information table on Sunday or connect with Christina.

I am NOT Second? …meet with us on Saturday!

We’ve had a great time doing the I Am Second videos on Saturday mornings. However, all good things must come to an end–or at least change.

Starting this week we’ll be studying something a little different, but still meeting once a month from 8-9:30am. However, we have moved from the 2nd Saturday to the 4th Saturday of the month.

See ya this week!

10 Reasons to Invite Someone to Deep Water for Easter

Easter at Deep Water Church 2016-03In case you missed it, Easter is this Sunday (March 27). Easter is a big deal for those of us who follow Jesus. Spoiler Alert: it’s the day we celebrate that He overcame death and offers us new life now–and eternal life. And since most people in our culture celebrate Easter even if they don’t truly understand its meaning, it’s a great day to invite people to check out Deep Water Church.

1. 82% of people invited to an Easter Service will say likely attend

2. Four words: Free Coffee and Snacks!

3. When they come with you, it looks like you have groupies.

4. You will be inviting them to a place they can belong–and we all need that!

5. 35% of people would be likely to attend a church if they knew people there “are like me.” If you’re their friend, they are probably like you in some ways–or at least they may like you! 😉

6. 7 out of 10 unchurched people (people who have never really been part of a church) have never been invited to church. If you don’t invite them, who will?

7. After eating all that chocolate, you really need to get out of the house anyway–might as well bring a friend.

8. 2% of people who attend church will do so because of a church advertisement compared to 86% who attend because they were invited by someone they know.

9. Many people are looking for a church that is involved in the community–we do that! #homeless

10. Inviting them to Easter could be the most important, life-changing invitation they ever receive.

Not sure how to invite someone? Share the above graphic as your status or profile picture (here on Facebook), tag someone in the comments on Deep Water’s post, send them a private message and say you’ll meet them (or pick them up), call, text, tweet, Instagram–or just ask them in person!
