Fine Arts for Teens

Fine Arts 2016The Fine Arts Festival is a fun way to showcase your talents while being given the opportunity to have those talents recognized on the state, district and national levels. Last year our teens did well in Delaware, our region and some even qualified and competed at nationals.

While registration has already started, there is still time to register for the event.

The deadline for registration is February 1 and the first level of competition is February 20, 2016 in Newark, Delaware. (All creative writing, short film, mini saga, and promo video must have been sent in already.)

Who can participate in Fine Arts?
Students currently enrolled in grades 6-12 may participate in the Fine Arts Festival. Fine Arts is open to any student (grades 6-12) who is a follower of Jesus.

Kids Church at 9 and 11 am starting this week

Chilldrens MinistryReminder: Starting this week, we’ll have Kids Church at both the 9 and 11 am services.

When we first started the 9am service, we did not have Kids Church. This made it difficult for some people to attend at 9am, but we wanted to wait until we were able to offer the consistent quality our kids deserve.

We’re also welcoming a new teaching staff: Mariah started serving as our 11am teacher in December; and Mary will begin as our 9am teacher starting this week, January 24.

Mariah and her husband Lance come to us from Idaho. Mariah spent years with her family as a missionary living on an island in the Pacific. Mary has been part of our Kids Church Team for a while and has volunteered to lead for the 9am service. She and her husband Ron came here thru the AirForce and now call Delaware home. Both Mariah and Mary are really cool people who love Jesus and kids–be sure to meet them! Ask me (Jeff) and I’ll introduce you on Sunday!

Check in & Do Good

Reach-Promo-Jan2016-FB_PostThis month we’ll be supporting a charity called Soles4Souls every time we check in on Facebook at Deep Water. Every 10 check ins provides a piece of clothing to someone in need. Soles4Souls provides shoes, shirts, winter coats, and more.

What is Souls4Souls?

Soles4Souls was initially created to help those affected by the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Since then, Soles4Souls has provided shoes and clothing to millions of people in 127 countries. In every community, there are men, women, and children who may not have anything warm to wear this winter. But by checking in on Facebook we can help. For even more information, visit soles4souls.org.

P.S. If this is the first time you’ve heard of our Facebook check-in program, here’s how it works… we make a donation to a Kingdom-building cause every time someone in our community check-ins on Facebook. It’s a great way to tell your friends about Deep Water and do some good in the process. (If you need some help checking in on Facebook, just ask the closest teenager or 20-something and they’ll show you how.)
