Check in & Do Good

Reach-Promo-Jan2016-FB_PostThis month we’ll be supporting a charity called Soles4Souls every time we check in on Facebook at Deep Water. Every 10 check ins provides a piece of clothing to someone in need. Soles4Souls provides shoes, shirts, winter coats, and more.

What is Souls4Souls?

Soles4Souls was initially created to help those affected by the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Since then, Soles4Souls has provided shoes and clothing to millions of people in 127 countries. In every community, there are men, women, and children who may not have anything warm to wear this winter. But by checking in on Facebook we can help. For even more information, visit soles4souls.org.

P.S. If this is the first time you’ve heard of our Facebook check-in program, here’s how it works… we make a donation to a Kingdom-building cause every time someone in our community check-ins on Facebook. It’s a great way to tell your friends about Deep Water and do some good in the process. (If you need some help checking in on Facebook, just ask the closest teenager or 20-something and they’ll show you how.)

Fine Arts Festival for Teens

The Fine Arts Festival is a fun way to showcase your talents while being given the opportunity to have those talents recognized on the state, district and national levels. Last year our teens did well in Delaware, our region and some even qualified and competed at nationals.

While registration has already started, there is still time to register for the event.

The deadline for registration is February 1 and the first level of competition is February 20, 2016 in Newark, Delaware. (All creative writing, short film, mini saga, and promo video must be sent in by January 18.)

Who can participate in Fine Arts?
Students currently enrolled in grades 6-12 may participate in the Fine Arts Festival. Fine Arts is open to any student (grades 6-12) who is a follower of Jesus.

Kids Church Changes

When we started Deep Water, we used rotating teams of volunteers to teach the kids at Kids Church. As we have continued to grow, the needs for our kids have grown too. With some new volunteers and the expansion to a second service, we are now able to offer Kids Church at both the 9 and 11 am services, starting January 24. (When we first started the 9am service, we did not have Kids Church. This made it difficult for some people to attend at 9am, but we wanted to wait until we were able to offer the consistent quality our kids deserve.)

Instead of rotating teams of volunteers, we will have one teacher teaching weekly at the 9am service and one for the 11am service. So, please welcome Mariah as our 11am teacher and Mary as our 9am teacher. Both are really cool people who love Jesus and kids!

Note for clarity: Kids Church is currently offered at 11 am every week. Starting January 24, we’ll offer it at 9 am too.
