Ugly Christmas Sweater Sunday
Start planning your the ugliest, gaudiest, bedazzled, sparkle-fied, snow-covered, pine-needle decorated Christmas sweaters. We’re talking jingle bells, lights, felt snowmen, reindeer, Santa hats and more for this Sunday, December 13. Not sure what an Ugly Sweater is? Well, then you probably wear one all the time! Just Kidding! 😉 See our winner last year, Justin (in red), with Jeff.
We do fun stuff because we are a fun church; so it’s a great Sunday to invite a friend or check us out for the first time! Come to our “ugliest” service yet! …and we promise there will be more than just ugly sweaters as we anticipate The Arrival of Christmas!
Check-in to Care for a Child
This month, we’re partnering with Compassion International to care for children in extreme poverty.
As one of the world’s leading child development organizations, Compassion partners with the local church in 26 countries to end poverty in the lives of children and their families.
Support these kids by encouraging your community to check in on Facebook this month!
Every 6 check-ins will supply a day of care for a child in extreme poverty.
Something Artsy to Checkout in Downtown Dover
Faith and art have a long history. If you’re interested in the two, you may be interested in an exhibit at the Biggs Museum featuring a handwritten and illustrated Bible:
The Biggs Museum of American Art is exceptionally proud to be a rare American host ofIlluminating the Word: The Saint John’s Bible. Be the first to vew this international exhibition which features 70 pages of The Saint John’s Bible, the first monumental hand-illuminated bible to be commissioned by a Benedictine monastery in over 500 years. Of the 70 pages included in the exhibition, they span all 7 books of the Bible. This is the first time pages from all 7 books have been on display together.
Be the first to see this exciting exhibition and enjoy refreshments from Caffe Gelato!
St. John’s University, Collegeville, Minnesota, commissioned the enormous art project of an entire hand-written and illuminated Bible: every word, every artwork, every image, from one of the best-known contemporary scribes and illuminators in the world, Donald Jackson. The artist’s team worked for almost fifteen years to adorn each vellum page of The Saint John’s Bible using the same tools and materials that medieval monks used to create Bibles before the invention of the printing press: quill and ink. These inspiring accomplishments will be accompanied by a display of tools, materials and artists’ drafts used in the Bible’s creation at the Biggs Museum December 2015-March 2016.

There is a reception this Friday night at 5pm if you want to be one of the first to see it. For more information about the reception, check out the Facebook event here.

Deep Water Church in the News
If you missed it, we made the news with a project we started informally last year. We picked up leftover gear at Firefly; and made a formal proposal to the company that runs the event. So, this year we’re doing it on a much larger scale so we can make a difference with the homeless community in Delaware.
Check out the story on WBOC here. (Sorry we couldn’t get a video clip of the interview.)
We’ll need plenty of help, so stay tuned for more info!
