#GiveWater

10-Oct_Reach_Promo1_16x9

This October, we’re proud to partner with Save the Children to help provide 6 gallons of clean drinking water to a refugee in need with every check-in. So, check in and help families in need!

Any time you check in at Deep Water, it counts! So make a difference and #givewater!

Thanks for checking in!

weekly_updateAs we announced previously, every time you check in on Facebook, you’ll help someone in need. The cause will change monthly. Last month we provided meals to students in Haiti. Your check-ins helped provide a family with water for over a year!

We had a total of 148 check-ins, so nearly 50 meals were donated. This month we already have 52 check-ins, so we’re on our way to doing a lot of good things!

And remember, we’ll track the check-ins all week, not just on Sundays–so anytime you all are together (or at groups during the week) anyone can check-in and they still contribute to the causes.

If you don’t have a phone with the Facebook app on it, you can use a laptop or other mobile device to go to http://www.m.facebook.com to check in.

Clothing Needed

12003003_10153194185168366_3851024633054899707_nAs colder weather arrives, we see an increase in the request for cold weather clothing from the homeless. As you clean out your closets, keep our homeless members and guests in mind. We always need adult shirts, jeans, hoodies, jackets, socks, gloves, hats, etc.

Please remember that socks are the most needed but least donated article of clothing in homeless shelters.

We have the most need for adult male clothing; and need a smaller amount of adult female clothes. We currently don’t have much demand for clothing for children; but we may have some donation options available through Code Purple.

Hurricane Needs

While most of us will simply ride out the hurricane in our homes, many will be on the streets. Some who normally live in hotels will find themselves on the streets because NASCAR attendees will use the hotels they would normally rent. Everything is in a state of limbo at the moment, but the normal Code Purple which operates during extreme cold also helps out when there are emergencies outside of winter. I just got this message on the Code Purple Facebook group:

Due to the upcoming storm…..we may need to go into a Code in Need with the help from Dover Interfaith Mission. We may need food!!! and water!!

Dover Interfaith is planning to take on at least 20-25 extra men…..we are working on emergency shelter IF needed for women and children. We will also need food. It would help us if the food is prepared for at least 15-20 and placed in containers that we are able to keep. We would be in this emergency from Friday-Monday 8am. At this time —–we are waiting to hear back from the City and State- but in the meantime we would like to have a plan incase this is needed. If you can help——please inbox here or call Dover Interfaith Mission 302-736-3600

If you wish to help, please contact them. And if you’re interested in up to the minute information about Code Purple, join the Facebook group here.
