Unity and Diversity Day
The hashtag #AllLivesMatter has been controversial in recent months due to the nuances of understanding what it means and the conversation around subtle and overt racism that often exists in our nation. Local churches are coming together this Saturday to show unity. As the Apostle Paul writes in Galatians 3:23, “There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Everything that divides us in our society (race, class, social position, etc.) disappears when we know Christ and the life He brings!
In order to show the unity among churches and people in Dover, local churches are coming together this Saturday (June 6) for 12-5pm to celebrate on Legislative Mall (that giant green space downtown near Legislative Hall where people watch the fireworks, etc.). There will be a ceremony at 1:30pm to recognize the unity we have in Christ even though we may be different race, ages or worship Jesus with a different style of music or “doing church”.
I (Jeff) have been asked to pray at a point during the ceremony, so you may even see me in a tie without anyone getting married or dying–although you’re welcome to come dressed casually!
First Friday this week on June 5
Looking for something fun to do Friday night? On the first Friday of every month, the City and downtown merchants sponsor fun events for adults and kids. This month you can expect a Kids Fashion Show from Dinos and Darlings, free Country Line Dancing Lessons, a Fashion Show by Bel Boutique and music by Emily Moses.
So come out, check out some fun events and shop downtown merchants from 5-8pm this Friday. For up to date information, check on First Friday on Facebook.
If you haven’t figured it out by now, this is not a Deep Water event; but we encourage people to be involved in the community as we all make Dover a great place to live!
I missed 101, should I take 201?
Q: I missed Church 101, should I take Essential 201?
A: If you missed Church 101, you can still take Essentials 201 this week (and 301 and 401).
In Essentials 201, we will learn the best practices for how to grow in your faith
The classes take roughly an hour; so join us June 7, 14 and 28th. (The 21st is Father’s Day.) These classes are designed to teach more about our history and values–in other words, why we do what we do–while helping you grow in your faith!
Church 101: This class is a basic introduction to Deep Water and will help you understand church membership. (last week!)
Essentials 201: This class develops the essential habits that every believer needs to become a fully-devoted follower of Jesus Christ.
Discovery 301: This class will help you discover your personality, gifts, and purpose in life, and see how God combines them for the best fit in ministry.
Dream Team 401: This class will help you connect your gifts to a place to help make the vision a reality.
If you can’t make all four, you can catch up the next time. Please let us know if you’re coming so we can plan. To RSVP, contact us or comment below!
Why Should I take Church 101?
A great question was asked last week after the worship gathering, “If I have been here for a long time, should I take Deep Water 101, etc.?”
The short answer to that is: YES!
These classes are designed to teach more about our history and values–in other words, why we do what we do–while helping you grow in your faith! But they also contain some new material and details that you may not have heard. And while some people may not want to “join” the church, we want to make what we believe clear to those who make Deep Water Church their spiritual home.
