Clowning Around at Artsyfest
On April 18 from 10am-4pm, the art store above us is hosting an event on Loockerman St. named Artsyfest to insure kids to try different forms of art. Loockerman St. will be blocked off from State St. to Governors Ave. so kids and parents can safely walk thru the festival. There will be arts and crafts sponsored by businesses in the downtown area. We’ve been asked to help out by making balloon animals (cuz that’s what we do!). If we have artsy volunteers, we could do an arts and crafts table as well.
It’ll be a great way to meet people, serve the community and let people know where we are. If you are available and willing to learn, we’ll need more balloon help that day. It’s easy to learn–we can practice this Sunday after the worship gathering to learn the basics. If you’re interested, contact us or comment below.
For more info about the event, check out the Downtown Dover website.
Get Involved and Help Others!
Code Purple was a huge help to the homeless this winter. As that program winds down in the spring, many will find themselves without places to stay and access to clothing, etc. As many of you know, we provide food, hygiene products and clothing (primarily for men) for the homeless year round. If you’d like to get involved, here are some ways:
Donate Clothes: We need used men’s clothing, jeans, socks and sneakers (size 9 1/2 thru 11). As you do your spring cleaning, think of us and we’ll pass things along.
Hygiene Products: We maintain a supply of toothpaste, deodorant, soap, etc. that helps those living on the streets to maintain a level of hygiene that helps them find employment, etc.
Pickup or Heat Sandwiches: We have volunteers pick up food during the day Monday thru Friday form WaWa and bring it to the church building. On Sundays, we heat sandwiches after church and pass them out at a place downtown. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we currently heat sandwiches in the morning and deliver them to The Interfaith Day Resource Center (where homeless people can shower, do laundry, get help getting an ID, get help finding jobs, etc.).
Salvation Army Lunch: Every other month, volunteers provide a meal and serve lunch at the Salvation Army downtown.
To get involved or fund on, contact us, comment below or talk to me (Jeff) on Sunday.
What is YouVersion? …a great way to read your Bible on your phone, iPad, etc.
From time to time we mention YouVersion on Sunday mornings–and we even have a brochure on the Welcome Table…so, what is YouVersion?
Each week the Scriptures are available on the screen, but also on your web enabled, Apple or Android device before we start on Sunday and throughout the week. To access our events, follow these simple steps:
Tap the dashboard icon in the top left hand corner of the screen, then tap “Live” (see the icon to the right). Depending on your screen size and version of the app, you may have to scroll down to see this option.
If you are prompted for the app to use your Location, tap “Allow” if you are looking for local live events.
If there is no prompt, or if no events display:
- Type in a group name (Deep Water), event name, zip code or city.
- Locate the event you want (We use the series name) and tap on it to participate.
- Follow the outline for the Event.
(Shortcut: Just click on the Bible icon at the top of this page. Each week, it links to the current event.)
The event is not “live” in the sense of everyone participating together at one time. People can join and work through the material when they want and at their own speed… and are not interacting “live” with others…. But you are all seeing and reading the same content… so all are literally “on the same page.”
Each week we produce discussion questions. These questions are written to help you get into the passage during the week and apply the truths discussed that week. While we don’t use these during the worship gathering, they can be used for a discussion on the way home, to review things through the week or for something to discuss with some friends.
Men’s Group this Saturday
The Men’s group meets this Saturday (April 11) at 8am.
We live in a world where men often strive to be #1–in sports, the workplace, in our hobbies and in everything we do. But there are times where being second is the best choice you can make. Meet us this Saturday at Deep Water’s worship space. We’ll make coffee then watch a short video and talk about faith and how it affects the way we live our lives. If you want breakfast, feel free to grab something before your come–it’s BYOB…Bring Your Own Breakfast!
