Give them a Ride
OK, this may be a crazy idea, but…
Some of the people who are homeless are working to make life better for themselves. Often transportation is one of the things that can be difficult for them. We got a bike donation this week to help a homeless person get to and from their current place to the services they need (and church). After some new tires, the bike will be road ready. (We plan to supply them with a bike lock too.) If you have a bike you might be interested in donating, let us know. Until we find a new owner for them, we won’t be able to store them; but will be looking for donations in the near future.
If you want to be a part of this, we’re looking for:
- used bikes in rideable condition
- new inter-tubes
- use/new bike locks
- people able to change the tires and make sure the bikes are road worthy
If you’re interested, contact us or comment below.
Code Purple Shelter Volunteers Needed
Due to cold weather, code purple will be activated this Friday and Saturday nights. Wesley UMC (around the corner from us on State Street) has asked if we have any volunteers willing to stay overnight in their facilities (5pm-7am) to watch over guests (women and children) who will stay the night. People can volunteer to split the shift instead of staying the whole time.
Post or contact me if you are interested.
Lunch After Church
As part of our celebration of our 2nd anniversary and baptism Sunday, we’ll be getting together for a “potluck” after the regular service on Sunday, November 16. There is a signup in the back on if you want to participate. (What is a “potluck”? Basically everyone brings some food to share and we have lunch together.) To signup online or ask questions, contact us or conner with Julie Memmolo.
Men, Be Second!
We live in a world where men often strive to be #1–in sports, the workplace, in our hobbies and in everything we do. But there are times where being second is the best choice you can make. Meet us this Saturday (November 8) at Espresso-N-Ice (same shopping center as Route 8 Food Lion and Goodwill), grab a cup of coffee, watch a short video and talk about faith and how it affects the way we live our lives.
What is I am Second?
From their website: I am Second is a movement meant to inspire people of all kinds to live for God and for others. Actors. Athletes. Musicians. Business leaders. Drug addicts. Your next-door neighbor. People like you. The authentic stories on iamsecond.com provide insight into dealing with typical struggles of everyday living. These are stories that give hope to the lonely and the hurting, help from destructive lifestyles, and inspiration to the unfulfilled. You’ll discover people who’ve tried to go it alone and have failed. Find the hope, peace, and fulfillment they found. Be Second.
Details:
Date: Saturday, November 8

Meeting regularly: 2nd Saturday of the month

Baptism
Several people have expressed interest in getting baptized and we’re scheduling one for November 16 during the main worship gathering.
If you’re interested in being baptized, see me, contact me, sign up on Sunday with the connection card or comment below so we can be sure you get the most up to date information and let you know about any last minute changes.
By the way, during the summer of 2013, one week’s sermon was about baptism. So if you’re not sure what baptism is all about, check out the podcast.
