Celebrate Being 2nd! (Men’s Group)

We live in a world where men often strive to be #1–in sports, the workplace, in our hobbies and in everything we do. But there are times where being second is the best choice you can make. Meet us on Saturday, November 8 at Espresso-N-Ice (same shopping center as Route 8 Food Lion and Goodwill), grab a cup of coffee, watch a short video and talk about faith and how it affects the way we live our lives.

What is I am Second?
From their website: I am Second is a movement meant to inspire people of all kinds to live for God and for others. Actors. Athletes. Musicians. Business leaders. Drug addicts. Your next-door neighbor. People like you. The authentic stories on iamsecond.com provide insight into dealing with typical struggles of everyday living. These are stories that give hope to the lonely and the hurting, help from destructive lifestyles, and inspiration to the unfulfilled. You’ll discover people who’ve tried to go it alone and have failed. Find the hope, peace, and fulfillment they found. Be Second.

Potluck

As part of our celebration of our 2nd anniversary and baptism Sunday, we’ll be getting together for a “potluck” after the regular service on Sunday, November 16. There is a signup in the back on if you want to participate. (What is a “potluck”? Basically everyone brings some food to share and we have lunch together.) To signup online or ask questions, contact us or connect with Julie Memmolo.

Baptism

Baptism Nov 16Several people have expressed interest in getting baptized and we’re scheduling one for November 16 during the main worship gathering.

If you’re interested in being baptized, see me, contact me, sign up on Sunday with the connection card or comment below so we can be sure you get the most up to date information and let you know about any last minute changes.

By the way, during the summer of 2013, one week’s sermon was about baptism. So if you’re not sure what baptism is all about, check out the podcast.

Trunk or Treat Downtown

Press release:

DOVER, DE – Downtown Dover Partnership in collaboration with the Downtown Dover Merchants  announces a free “Trunk or Treat Parade Party” scheduled for Friday, October 24 2014 from 5:00pm to 7:30pm to take place in the Downtown Dover Business District.  “The “Trunk or Treat” event offers a variety of exciting activities for kids and youth of all ages,”  said Erin Cooper Barrett, event co-chair. Activities will include a Children’s Costume Parade, live music, bounce house, face painting, costume contest and free hot dogs. Free candy will be distributed from decorated vehicles and downtown Dover merchants during the parade. Children and accompanying adults will have the opportunity to partake in a free fun family event bringing the community together to celebrate the fall,” said Damon Cinaglia, event co-chair.

As a downtown church, we want to be a part of the things that happen downtown. It’s a way to serve the community and connect with people who might be interested in our church. We are looking for volunteers to:

  • Decorate and hand out candy from their trunks
  • Make balloon animals (I will be available for clown college after the worship service this week)
  • Run fun Kid Games at our booth on the Loockerman Way Green Space (open space with benches near the church–not “The Green or Legislative Mall)
  • Give us Candy Donations to hand out from trunks or the Deep Water Booth.

Not sure what, we mean by “Trunk-Or-Treat”? Check out these fun examples:

Christian Atheist

ChristianAtheist“The more I looked, the more I found Christian Atheists everywhere.” Former Christian Atheist Craig Groeschel knows his subject all too well. After over a decade of successful ministry, he had to make a painful self admission: although he believed in God, he was leading his church like God didn’t exist. To Christians and non-Christians alike, to the churched and the unchurched, the journey leading up to Groeschel’s admission and the journey that follows—from his family and his upbringing to the lackluster and even diametrically opposed expressions of faith he encountered—will look and sound like the story of their own lives. Now the founding and senior pastor of the multicampus, pace-setting LiveChurch.tv, Groeschel personal journey toward a more authentic God-honoring life is more relevant than ever. Christians and Christian Atheists everywhere will be nodding their heads as they are challenged to take their own honest moment and ask the question: am I putting my whole faith in God but still living as if everything was up to me?

Check out this book and many others on the shelf at Deep Water. And feel free to bring it home to read!
