YouVersion

youversionEach week the Scriptures are available on the screen, but also on your web enabled, Apple or Android device. To access our events, follow these simple steps:

Tap the dashboard icon in the top left hand corner of the screen, then tap Live. (Depending on your screen size and version of the app, you may have to scroll down to see this option.)

  1. If you are prompted for the app to use your Location, tap Allow if you are looking for local live events
  2. If no prompt, or if no events display: Type in a group name (Deep Water), event name, zip code or city
  3. Locate the event you want and tap on it to participate
  4. Follow the outline for the Event

(Shortcut: Just click on the Bible icon at the top of this page. Each week, it links to the current event.)

The event is not “live” in the sense of everyone participating together at one time. People can join and work through the material when they want and at their own speed… and are not interacting “live” with others…. But you are all seeing and reading the same content… so all are literally “on the same page.”

Each week we produce discussion questions. These questions are written to help you get into the passage from the week before and apply the truths discussed that week. While we don’t use these during the worship gathering, they can be used to review things through the week–or invite a couple of friends to discuss them with you!

Get Involved!

Get Involved3-01Excited about things at Deep Water? Looking to make a difference? There are a variety of ways to get involved at Deep Water and we’d love to help you find a place for you to serve that matches the way God made you. Here are a few of the common places that you can get involved quickly:

Library Food
We heat sandwiches and head to the library where we meet and feed people weekly. It’s a great way to show the love of Jesus to people. For more detailed information, see this announcement.
Farmers Market
We have an opportunity to setup a table and do arts and crafts for kids while telling people about who we are. It’ll be on Wednesdays at 11:30am.  For more detailed information, see this announcement.
Snack Rotation
One of the unique things about us is we have great coffee and snacks every week after the worship gathering. We always need people willing to make a few things to eat.
Put up Signs
Because our location can be difficult to find without the extra signage we put out every week, the signs for finding us and parking in the right place are essential. We need help getting them out and in place each morning and taking them in afterward.
Greeting/Opening Doors
Having a smile and helping people find their way in makes people much more comfortable as they take the risk and come check us out. A good experience can make a big difference in their day.
Nursery
From babies to toddlers, these little ones need lots of attention and care–but are also a lot of fun and full of joy. Helping watch them gives moms a break and allows them time to focus on God on Sunday.
Kids Church
Our rotating teams of teachers have a chance to impact a child forever as they invest in the kids during the time adults are listening to the sermon. And most teachers learn a lot about the subject too as they prepare using the provided lesson curriculum.
Summer Cleaning
We have volunteers who come in and clean on a rotating schedule during the week. During the summer we need extra help as they are on vacation, etc. so we can keep our facility looking its best.
Music
Do you have musical talent? Whether you sing or play an instrument, we invite you to connect with us and talk about joining the worship team.
If you’re interested in getting involved, contact us, comment below or fill out a connection card online or on Sunday.
If you want to get involved, but none of these sound good, let us know. We’d love to help you find the place where you can make a difference while serving!

Update on Food for the Hungry

As we said before, some of us have been feeding hungry people at the library on various days. We’ve had our biggest responses on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays. Those are the days that other churches or organizations do not feed people. We’re hoping to be able to commit to feeding regularly on those days.

Basically we heat pre-made sandwiches, soft pretzels, etc. (about 25 minutes) and bring them to the library where we meet up with hungry people, feed them, sit down and hang out with them for a few minutes and listen to their stories, finding out more about them. At times, we pray, invite them to church, etc. (We have several people who come to Deep Water because we hang out with them there.)

We’re not looking to create a big program, we’re just looking to love people the way Jesus told us to love people. It can be scary going the first time, but if you come a few times, you’ll get to know them and it’ll come very naturally. Of course, if you try it and it doesn’t click for you, you don’t have to keep doing it.

Currently, a few of us feed people on Sundays after church and on Mondays around 2pm. If you’re interested in giving it a try on one of those days or another time, let us know. Additional days and times are easy to add!

Farmers Market Update

The City of Dover has a Farmers’ Market sponsored by The Downtown Dover Partnership on Wednesday afternoons from 11:30am-4:30pm during the summer months on Loockerman Street in the green space near Deep Water’s worship space. Personally, I (Jeff) try to go every week to support all they are trying to do in downtown Dover.

Since, it would be an opportunity to connect with people in Dover and serve in a place close to where we meet on Sundays, we are trying to get approval to set up a table on some Wednesdays. We have a few people interested in helping me plan a few kids crafts/games and set up and run a booth to tell people about Deep Water. If you’re interested, let me know ASAP so I can include you when we know more.

Music on The Green

We like to advertise cool things in the community and encourage those who call Deep Water home to be a part of things in the community. The City of Dover is providing a FREE Concert on The Green series. Grab a lawn chair and come out to The Green on Thursdays at  7:00 pm this Summer.

It’s a great place to run into people you know or meet some new people. If you have kids, grab a frisbee or a soccer ball and let them play in the open space while you relax. For the summer schedule, click here.

By the way, “The Green” is the small circle of grass off of State Street near the church’s building–not the large green space where people watch fireworks.
