Music on The Green

We like to advertise cool things in the community and encourage those who call Deep Water home to be a part of things in the community. The City of Dover is providing a FREE Concert on The Green series. Grab a lawn chair and come out to The Green on Thursdays at  7:00 pm this Summer.

It’s a great place to run into people you know or meet some new people. If you have kids, grab a frisbee or a soccer ball and let them play in the open space while you relax. For the summer schedule, click here.

By the way, “The Green” is the small circle of grass off of State Street near the church’s building–not the large green space where people watch fireworks.

Kids God Time Sheets & Monthly Parent Cue (June 22 & 29)

Church and familyEach month we supply a Parent Cue for parents and a weekly God Time sheet for kids. We post the monthly Parent Cue discussion sheet and the week’s God Time exercise for the lesson that was taught this Sunday. Copies of these are also available on the welcome table as you enter the main worship space. Or, for your convenience, you can download them below. Interested in the teaching plan? Check out June’s theme here.

Parent Cue Discussion Spiritual Discussion Starter Sheet
For this month: Parent Cue – June 2014

God Time Quiet Time Exercise for Kids
For the lesson from this Sunday God Time June 22. Looking forward to next week’s? Check out the one for God Time June 29. What’s the deal with these anyway? Our goal as a church is provide you with resources to help your children grow spiritually. We’re doing our best to make things simple and easy. Please feel free to give us feedback on this!

  • The Parent Cue is meant to be a resource for you to discuss and reinforce the lesson with your kids. The monthly sheet contains discussion questions for each week. They are designed to help you understand what your kids are learning and talk with your kids about spiritual principles in a relaxed way. They make great dinner conversation!
  • The God Time is intended to help kids learn to spend some quiet time with God on their own so they learn to grow spiritually and begin to take responsibility for doing spiritual things on their own. (Of course, they can be fun to do as a family and you’re welcome to help them and model it for them as they learn!)

Get Involved

Get Involved3-01Excited about things at Deep Water? Looking to make a difference? There are a variety of ways to get involved at Deep Water and we’d love to help you find a place for you to serve that matches the way God made you. Here are a few of the common places that you can get involved quickly:

Library Food
We heat sandwiches and head to the library where we meet and feed people weekly. It’s a great way to show the love of Jesus to people. For more detailed information, see this announcement this week.
Farmers Market
We have an opportunity to setup a table and do arts and crafts for kids while telling people about who we are. It’ll be on Wednesdays at 11:30am.  For more detailed information, see this announcement this week.
Snack Rotation
One of the unique things about us is we have great coffee and snacks every week after the worship gathering. We always need people willing to make a few things to eat.
Put up Signs
Because our location can be difficult to find without the extra signage we put out every week, the signs for finding us and parking in the right place are essential. We need help getting them out and in place each morning and taking them in afterward.
Greeting/Opening Doors
Having a smile and helping people find their way in makes people much more comfortable as they take the risk and come check us out. A good experience can make a big difference in their day.
Nursery
From babies to toddlers, these little ones need lots of attention and care–but are also a lot of fun and full of joy. Helping watch them gives moms a break and allows them time to focus on God on Sunday.
Kids Church
Our rotating teams of teachers have a chance to impact a child forever as they invest in the kids during the time adults are listening to the sermon. And most teachers learn a lot about the subject too as they prepare using the provided lesson curriculum.
Summer Cleaning
We have volunteers who come in and clean on a rotating schedule during the week. During the summer we need extra help as they are on vacation, etc. so we can keep our facility looking its best.
Music
Do you have musical talent? Whether you sing or play an instrument, we invite you to connect with us and talk about joining the worship team.
If you want to get involved, but none of these sound good, contact us and connect on Sunday. We’d love to help you find the place where you can make a difference while serving!

Feeding the Hungry

Some of us have been feeding hungry people at the library on various days. We’ve had our biggest responses on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays. Those are the days that other churches or organizations do not feed people. We’re hoping to be able to commit to feeding regularly on those days.

Currently, a few of us feed people on Sundays after church. Two of us are planning to go on Monday around 2pm. Basically we heat pre-made sandwiches, etc. (about 25 minutes) and bring them to the library where we meet up with hungry people, feed them, sit down and hang out with them for a few minutes and listen to their stories, finding out more about them. At times, we pray, invite them to church, etc. (We have several people who come to Deep Water because we hang out with them there.)

We’re not looking to create a big program, we’re just looking to love people the way Jesus told us to love people. It can be scary going the first time, but if you come a few times, you’ll get to know them and it’ll come very naturally. Of course, if you try it and it doesn’t click for you, you don’t have to keep doing it.

Farmers Market

We have an opportunity to setup a table with crafts, kids games, etc. at the Farmers’ Market on Wednesday afternoons on Loockerman Street in the green space near the church building.

It would be an opportunity to connect with people in Dover in a place close to where we meet on Sundays. Would anyone be interested in helping me plan a few kids crafts/games and set up and run a booth to tell people about Deep Water? The Farmers’ Market runs on Wednesdays from 11:30-4:30 during the summer months.
