Homeless Ministry Meeting this Sunday (February 23)

To better help the homeless in the area and to combine the individual efforts of those who go to Deep Water, we’re having an organizational/informational meeting this Sunday (February 23) about 15 minutes after the worship gathering (most people call it church, but you know I hate to call what we DO church because the church is the PEOPLE).

Anyone who is interested in our future plans and what is already being done around Dover is invited to attend, but since we’re grabbing some pizza and drinks, we need a headcount. Please RSVP by commenting below or contact us.

If you use our online community, feel free to login and RSVP there by clicking on the event here. (If you haven’t logged into our online community, you can get more info here.)

Parent Cue Discussion Spiritual Discussion Starter Sheet
For the material this month: February Parent Cue.

God Time Quiet Time Exercise for Kids
For the lesson from Sunday: God Time February 16.
Looking forward to next week’s? Forget to pick one up? Check out the one for God Time February 23.

What’s the deal with these anyway?
Our goal as a church is provide you with resources to help your children grow spiritually. We’re doing our best to make things simple and easy. Please feel free to give us feedback on this!

  • The Parent Cue is meant to be a resource for you to discuss and reinforce the lesson with your kids. The monthly sheet contains discussion questions for each week. They are designed to help you understand what your kids are learning and talk with your kids about spiritual principles in a relaxed way. They make great dinner conversation!
  • The God Time is intended to help kids learn to spend some quiet time with God on their own so they learn to grow spiritually and begin to take responsibility for doing spiritual things on their own. (Of course, they can be fun to do as a family and you’re welcome to help them and model it for them as they learn!)

One Another for the week

one-anotherLove one another

This past Sunday we talked about Colossians 2:1-5 which paints a picture of spiritual growth. Jesus said in John 13:34-35, NIV, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

That is one of the many times in the New Testament we are called to do something either to/with “one another” or “each other”. These are meant to be done as a community, with our friends, spouses, children, etc. – and often even with those who irritate or anger us. Frankly, it can be challenging at times because there are times we simply don’t feel like doing them. Despite our humanity which is marred by sin and often makes us want to do something different than we know we should, remember to practice the one anothers.

So, as Jesus said, Let us LOVE ONE ANOTHER this week!

Parenting: 6 words

With our culture’s obsession with sports – and perhaps an excessive amount of sports references in this Sundays’s sermon by me! 😉 – here is a good, short article (shorter than last week’s) on what to tell your kids when they’re playing sports.

Fun Ways to Connect with people on St. Patricks Day

As a church, we try to connect with people during downtown events. With St. Patricks Day approaching, we have an opportunity to connect with people as they attend the parade. We have a few ideas about how to connect with people. If you have some ideas or are interested in learning more or helping out, contact me (Jeff).

We’ll have more details available in the near future…
