Homeless Ministry Meeting on February 23

There are many homeless people in need of help and many of us do what we can to help. To better help those who are hurting, we’re having an organizational/informational meeting on Sunday, February 23rd after the worship gathering (most people call it church, but you know I hate to call what we DO church because the church is the PEOPLE).

Anyone who is interested is invited to attend. Since we’ll grab some pizza and drinks, we’ll need a headcount. Please RSVP by commenting below or contact us. If you use our online community, feel free to login and RSVP there by clicking on the event here. If you haven’t logged into our online community, you can get more info here.

Thanks for the Bibles!

FCA Wrestling New TestamentThanks for supplying New Testaments to high school wrestlers, managers and coaches at Caesar Rodney High School! As part of our chapel meeting through The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), we were able to share the Good News about Jesus along with some inspiring stories found in the testimonies printed inside this New Testament provided by Deep Water Church.

As Tervel Dlagnev wrote in his testimony found inside the New Testament:
“It was through wrestling that God ultimately revealed Himself to me. Wrestling is such an introspective and personal sport. I had a lot of doubts and fears and that caused me to ask questions about my nature. One of my high school teammates shared the gospel with me at a national tournament. I didn’t take him seriously at first but the message of Jesus Christ stuck deep in my heart…”

We offered the wrestlers and others who attended the voluntary chapel the chance to take one of these home, along with some free food (for AFTER weigh ins!). They were a huge hit. Many kids who didn’t come to the meeting were excited to get one along with the extra food!

While the huge abrasion and swelling on my face from wrestling practice should disappear by Sunday, we will have one copy available to see on Sunday if you didn’t get a chance to check one out last week.

Some have expressed interest in purchasing one for a themselves or someone else. If we have enough interest, we can purchase more. While they are not available on Amazon (at least when this was written), they are available through the FCA Wrestling site.

If you’re interested in learning more about FCA, what they do or how you can get involved in sports ministry, contact us or see me (Jeff) on Sunday.

Parent Cue Discussion Spiritual Discussion Starter Sheet
For the material this month: February Parent Cue.

God Time Quiet Time Exercise for Kids
For the lesson from Sunday: God Time February 9.
Looking forward to next week’s? Forget to pick one up? Check out the one for God Time February 16.

What’s the deal with these anyway?
Our goal as a church is provide you with resources to help your children grow spiritually. We’re doing our best to make things simple and easy. Please feel free to give us feedback on this!

  • The Parent Cue is meant to be a resource for you to discuss and reinforce the lesson with your kids. The monthly sheet contains discussion questions for each week. They are designed to help you understand what your kids are learning and talk with your kids about spiritual principles in a relaxed way. They make great dinner conversation!
  • The God Time is intended to help kids learn to spend some quiet time with God on their own so they learn to grow spiritually and begin to take responsibility for doing spiritual things on their own. (Of course, they can be fun to do as a family and you’re welcome to help them and model it for them as they learn!)

Parenting: Six Simple Words for your Kids as they Play Sports

With little league season upon us, and all the many other sports that kids play year round, I think a lot about what I tell my kids as I encourage them to participate in different sports. Sports offer the opportunity to learn to exercise for our health, learn discipline and the value of hard work–along with other life lessons. Personally, I think a lot about how I parent my kids (including their participation in sports, music, etc.) will affect their self-image and their future. I came across this article that some of you may find interesting: What Parents Should Say as their Kids Perform.
