The Fall: Sin & Hope

The initial chapters of Genesis paint a picture of the world as God intended it to be. Everything is good; there is no sin, sorrow, pain, or death. Humanity lives in perfect fellowship with God, each other, and with the creation. But today, everywhere we look we see pain, rebellion, brokenness, hopelessness, despair. And in our own lives, no matter how badly we want to honor God, we struggle with temptations as sin screams at us from all sides, begging us to rebel against God and pursue our own desires. How did the world get to this point? Where do we find hope? Join us the week for Multiply as we study “The Fall: Sin and Hope” – the story of Genesis 3-11.

Join us on Thursdays at 1:00pm or 6:45pm at Deep Water’s building. Remember, if you don’t want to parallel park, the parking lot on North Street is done. It is shared with the City and several local businesses. You may park in the lot in any space with “LSA”–don’t worry they are clearly visible and plenty of them.

Our discussions are based on the Biblical texts and influenced by the book Multiply. (Feel free to buy the book–or download it as a pdf for FREE at www.multiplymovement.com.) It’s NOT necessary to read the book, but if you’re following along and want to keep up, read part IV, 2: The Fall. It’s NOT necessary to read the Bible text ahead of time, but some people like to get familiar with it before we meet. If you want to get familiar with the Bible texts we’ll be reading, read Genesis 3. We’ll also be making reference to Genesis 4-11.

Get Involved

Volunteer Opportunity: Invest in a young mother! We’re looking for someone to help with kids at Deep Water during the daytime for a new moms group so the moms can take a break. If you can help, let Charlene or Jeff know.

New Group for Moms

For any of you moms who need to know you are not alone in motherhood, Charlene Moore is forming a new group for a time of fellowship, encouragement, and uplifting for you at Deep Water. The group will be reading Sally Clarkson’s book, “Desperate: Hope for the mom who needs to Breathe”. We are tentatively planning on starting May 8 at 10am, but are still looking for someone to help with childcare. If you know of anyone who may be available during that time, please let us know.

Feel free to invite friends to join us! Check out the book here. Check out the Facebook event here.

Charlene will be ordering book. Contact her ASAP if you’re interested in getting one through her.

There is also a group meeting in Greenwood. If you’re interested, check out the Facebook event here.

For more information about either group or to volunteer to help with childcare, contact Charlene or Jeff.

Parent Cue for 3rd week of April 2013

As a church, we want to supply resources to help you as a parent move your kids forward in their journey of faith. To help you, we supply a weekly “Parent Cue” and “Kids Devotional”.  The Parent Cue will help you discuss the week’s lesson and Bible story with your child. You can schedule a time to sit down with them–or just have a discussion over dinner. For this week’s Parent Cue, click here to download it.

For older kids, we also have Kids Devotional material that goes along with what we’re learning in Kids Church. Encourage kids to choose four different days during the week to do these devotions. Most 4th and 5th graders are capable of having a “quiet time” on their own, once they’ve been taught how to do it, but they still need an adult to prompt them and/or follow up on it. Even though kids in early elementary (kindergarten through 3rd grade) are beginning to read things on their own, most are not mature enough to have a God time by themselves. This is something extra you may choose to do with your younger kids. Click to download it here.

Want more detailed instructions on how to use this. check out this post.

Group for Moms

from Charlene Moore:

For any of you moms who need to know you are not alone in motherhood, I am having a time of fellowship, encouragement, and uplifting for you at my home just north of Greenwood every other week starting May 1 at 1:00. We will be reading Sally Clarkson’s book, “Desperate: Hope for the mom who needs to Breathe”

If there is enough interest, I can hold another separate study at Deep Water. Let me know and here’s a link to the event at my home. It’s going to be a lot of fun; hope to see you there!!!
